AFJO, JAPAN, M. BONNIN – MAY 17-20, 2012

27 Feb, 2018

The Arto Institute was represented by Michel Bonnin MD, at the 85th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association in Kyoto (May 17-20, 2012).

The Congress President was Pr. Toshikazu Kubo (photo), from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine. Pr. Kubo has special links with Lyon because he spent a few months in Lyon with Dr. Jacques Caton and in Saint Etienne with Pr. Gilles Bousquet two decades ago. This was a great occasion to speak about his first experiences in France.
The special friendship between Japanese and French Orthopaedic surgeons was born a few decades ago when Pr. Shishikawa made his fellowship in Paris with Pr. Merle d’Aubigné.
The 2012 meeting of JOA had more than 10,000 attendees, coming from Japan and many other countries. Due to the high scientific level of the meeting discussions were active and passionate.
We introduced the concept of the Corail prosthesis based on compaction broaching and reported our 25 years’ experience with Hydroxy Apatite in Total Hip Arthroplasty. Michel Bonnin had very active discussions during separate sessions with Japanese colleagues and most of them will come for visits in France. Debates about biology of Hydroxy-Apatite, Cup positioning and preoperative planning in THA were particularly passionate.
Our Japanese colleagues demonstrated a huge hospitality, with gorgeous city tours and incredible dinners. We hope we will be able to offer our Japanese colleagues the same level of hospitality as they did in Kyoto and that we will contribute to the quality of the Japan-French friendship.
