Alain MACHENAUD

UNIVERSITY AND HOSPITAL QUALIFICATIONS

Born in 1942 in Annecy (France), he studies at the University of Lyon in the orthopaedic surgery department of Pr. Jacques Rebouillat, Pr. Albert Trillat and Pr. Georges de Mourgues. He is the Clinic Head of this department from November 1971 to July 1974. During this time, he becomes passionate about biomechanics (National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon), and wins the Antonin Poncet Prize of experimental surgery in 1972.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES AND LEARNED SOCIETIES

In July 1974, he creates the orthopaedics department of the Argonay Clinic, of which he is one of the co-founders. In 1978, he starts his surgical experience in the field of cementless hip prostheses and ceramic to ceramic bearing (Mittel-Meyer, Lord, Bousquet, PCA). He has been a member of the Artro Group from the very beginning (1982) and is mostly involved in revision surgery. From 1995 to 2007, he provides the “live surgery” training part in the 3 yearly Learning Centres in Annecy. In 1986, he performs the first implantation of a Corail stem on a 50 years old osteoporotic patient with a femoral neck fracture.

SCIENTIFIC WORK

Retired since July 2007, he continues to participate in the activities of the Artro Group and is mainly dedicated to managing the group database that he created in 1987.
